Import user profiles in SharePoint 2007

Import user profiles in SharePoint 2007

You can import user profile information from directory connections. By doing so, you can save time when entering user information for every user in your organization, but you might not be able to include all of the properties that you want to show for each user.
You can import user profile information from three types of sources: Active Directory directories, Lightweight Directory Access Protocol directories, or Business Data Catalogs. You can import new user profiles by using the first two sources, but you can only augment existing user profiles by using the third source.
To import user profile information, you must first configure the import settings (see Configure profile import settings [ http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263382(office.12).aspx ] ). You can also stop any import currently in progress, and you can view a log of past imports.
You can import user profile information by using the User Profiles and Properties page:
1. Open the administration page for the Shared Services Provider (SSP).
To open the administration page for the SSP, do the following:
1. On the top navigation bar, click Application Management.
2. On the Application Management page, in the Office SharePoint Server 2007 Shared Services section, click Create or Configure this Farm’s Shared Services.
3. On the Manage this Farm’s Shared Services page, there is a link to each SSP and links to the Web applications for each SSP. Click the link for the SSP that you want to open.
2. On the Shared Services Administration Home page, in the User Profiles and My Sites section, click User profile and properties.
